Greetings, fellow creatives and motivation seekers! Welcome to my first in this potential series of blog posts, where I'll be diving into the hodgepodge of awesomeness I've discovered this week during my regular search for learning, inspiration and dose of creative magic ✨
The stuff I share may not be brand new, but it'll sure as hell be inspirational and hopefully educational, as I delve down a rabbit hole of all things equality, equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) to dig up gems of videos, animations, and other bits of creative genius that I believe are well made, inspiring, and make you go:
"Oh wow, that's pure dead inspirational, that is!"
So let's hop on this wonky wagon of inspiration and see where it takes us! 🦄
Celebrating Black History Month 2023
Better UK
It's Black History Month right now, and although it's nothing to do with me as a white Scottish person, I believe wholeheartedly it's important to acknowledge and learn more about things like this, perhaps even more so if it doesn't affect you directly.
Politics aside, this is a nice wee video that is a little corporate but is high quality, has great messaging, is eye-opening, and I particularly admire the interviews being filmed against coloured backgrounds - that's something different and fun!
Plus, I appreciate seeing a video about Black History Month that's focussed on the UK - because too often it's all very US-centric.
Let's Talk About Equality and Equity
The Australian Human Rights Commission
This animated beauty sums up the difference between equality and equity in a way that's engaging and creative.
I adore the mix of elements used in this video - the colourful designs combined with black and white collage effects, and live action elements too.
Plus, it's narrated by a child, which makes the educational aspect feel not at all condescending; helped by the well-written script, of course.
The Starfish Story
Kesh
OK, this made me cry.
It's a beautifully drawn, beautiful animated wee short film with HEART.
And do you know what's even more impressive? It was made in just 48 hours!
I won't say any more, just give it a watch. I promise it'll be 3 minutes well spent.
That's all for this week. I'll post again soon (ish)!
What do you think to these choices? Do you have a favourite? Let me know in the comments!
